Superficial Venous Disease

A vein disease that affects the veins near the surface of the leg is known as superficial venous disease. This condition develops gradually, often over years and leads to symptoms such as heaviness, cramping, itching, swelling, leg fatigue, and restless legs. Some patients with this condition may develop varicose veins or spider veins.

Left untreated, superficial venous disease can lead to worsening symptoms as well as complications such as thick, leathery skin, hyperpigmentation, and open sores/ulcers. These symptoms can hinder a patient’s quality of life, making it important to treat this condition right away.

Dr. Majeed specializes in a variety of superficial venous therapies and can help patients relieve their symptoms and prevent worsening.

Treatments for Superficial Venous Disease

There are a number of different ways we may treat superficial venous disease. Some of the most effective and commonly recommended treatments we perform include:

Sclerotherapy

In sclerotherapy, a chemical is injected into a vein so that it can close off.

Radiofrequency or Laser Ablation:

Ablation is an excellent alternative to conventional vein stripping procedures. It can be performed under an hour with a local anesthetic with laser or radiofrequency technology.

The veins that are affected as well as the severity of a patient’s symptoms will determine the ideal treatment for them.
