Superficial Venous Disease

Superficial venous disease affects the veins located just beneath the surface of the skin, most often in the legs. It typically develops over time and may present with symptoms such as heaviness, cramping, itching, swelling, leg fatigue, or restless legs. Visible signs may include varicose veins or spider veins.
If left untreated, superficial venous disease can worsen and lead to complications including skin discoloration, thickened skin, and venous ulcers. Early treatment can reduce symptoms and prevent further progression.

Dr. Majeed specializes in a variety of superficial venous therapies and can help patients relieve their symptoms and prevent worsening.

Treatments for Superficial Venous Disease

We offer a variety of minimally invasive options to manage superficial venous disease. Treatment is customized based on symptoms and the extent of venous insufficiency. Common treatments include:

Sclerotherapy

A medication is injected into the affected vein to seal it shut, rerouting blood to healthier veins

Radiofrequency or Laser Ablation:

A thin catheter is inserted into the affected vein, and heat energy (via radiofrequency or laser) is used to collapse and seal it. This outpatient procedure typically takes less than an hour and requires only local anesthesia.

The veins that are affected as well as the severity of a patient’s symptoms will determine the ideal treatment for them.
